What is a DOI, and can I delete it from a publication?

What is a DOI?

A DOI ("Digital Object Identifier") is a stable, persistent identifier that can be assigned to digital objects. In essence, this means that if you give your publication a  DOI, it will be easier for other people to find, correctly identify, and cite your work. When you publish an item in the Canadian HSS Commons' Repository, you will have the option to publish that item with or without a DOI.

Sample DOIs:

10.25547/AVHX-DJ22
10.21428/f1f23564.ed75625f
10.54590/pop.2020.005

Can I delete a DOI from a publication after I've created it?

Users cannot delete a DOI. Please contact hsscommons@uvic.ca if you would like a publication deleted.
