Dana James and Evan Bowness’ book, Growing and eating sustainably: Agroecology in action, provides a portrayal of existing sites of a radically different food system than our present industrial one. The authors explore the origin of agroecology as a social movement, before expanding on the ways in which grower-eater relations can and are being strengthened in southern Brazil. Finally, they envision a future of global food systems that centre the justice and intersectionality explicit within the agroecological movement. The authors’ presentation of both photography and text draws individual stories out from abstract notions of ideal futures and brings them to life with their particularities.

Le livre Growing and eating sustainably : Agroecology in action de Dana James et Evan Bowness dresse un portrait de sites où s’opère un système alimentaire radicalement différent de notre système industriel actuel. Les auteurs explorent l’origine de l’agroécologie en tant que mouvement social, avant d’approfondir les moyens par lesquels les relations entre producteurs et mangeurs peuvent être et sont renforcées dans le sud du Brésil. Enfin, ils envisagent un avenir des systèmes alimentaires mondiaux centré sur la justice et l’intersectionnalité qui sont explicites au sein du mouvement agroécologique. À la fois par la photographie et par le texte, les auteurs parviennent à faire ressortir les histoires individuelles des notions abstraites d’avenir idéal et à nous les faire vivre avec leurs particularités.
